Communication

Today's comes from something I sent out to my co-workers today.  I try to send out some sort of inspirational quote or phrase each Friday.  Some work events this week triggered me to take a different tact this time.  Below is what I sent out and I thought it would be good to share with a broader audience. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Team, We all get into ruts and routines that we do out of habit.  It’s natural.  However, my team knows that I have to shake things up every once in a while.  It’s what I do to stay fresh and engaged.  <our director> knows me well enough to know that I like to use stories and analogies sometimes to convey a thought or point.  If you want to read this, great.  If not, that’s fine too…  😊   I promise there is a point at the end along with an inspirational video. This week has reminded me about the value of how you communicate with others for many r

Turn off the ($%&)()$ Technology

This is actually a topic I've been wanting to write about for quite a long time.  I think it started as COVID hit us hard.  For those of you that don't know, I have spent my entire career working with computer software and data/information.  To be a bit boastful, I'm very good at it as I have a natural ability to figure things out, and figure out how to put data together so that it's useable by anyone.  I also have a drive and intensity that are hard to match.  The tougher the problem, the more I like it.  It's not always a healthy approach, but that's a topic for another entry... When a crisis or urgent need comes up, I get called.  In March of 2020, a co-worker and I were called into a meeting where the topic was "help Lindsay get more sleep", literally.  We knew it was COVID related, but the scope and magnitude were unknown (as it usually is).  It turns out that an analyst working with employee health data had to manually track employees that were e

Introduction

As with many people, the last year has been quite remarkable given all of the restrictions with COVID, working from home, limited time with family and friends, etc.  Back in April, I hit a breaking point.  I was out of shape, overweight, and not in a very good emotional state.  I talked to several people that were in much the same situation I was.  One day, after lunch, I just decided that I was done with the way things were and needed to change.  I don't know what caused it to happen that day, but it did.   For background, I worked many years in computer software design and implementation.  I have a natural ability with it, and have had much success over my career.  I have US patents, and have won numerous individual and group awards from the companies that I worked for.  I have to say that I am achievement driven, which lends itself well when you work with computer software.  Success and achievement are easy to measure.  The problem is that the more you achieve, the more you wan
